Cubs – Summary of Week 12th June

Parents and carers,

Weekly Summary

We were extremely lucky to have Danyaal’s mum run an excellent programme, showing the cubs how to make flavoured bread sticks, humous, vegetable sticks, followed by a fruit kebab.

Many thanks to Sylvia to putting in so much time to this, we look forward to having you back for another session!!

We didn’t get time to work on the fathers day cards, but the cubs have been given cards and cut outs for homework.

Next Week

In preparation for the camp at the end of the month, we will attempt to pitch a couple of tents outside.  If the weather isn’t good then plan B will be pioneering.

Summer District Activity weekend (Whole group) representing New Zealand

Date: 29th June – 1st July

Location: Thriftwoods Scout Camp, Brentwood

This will be a huge event with beavers, cubs and scouts from all the groups invited, the last time we ran this event there were over 400 young people attending!

We are keeping the list of activities a secret, but I can confirm the itinerary will be full (much like last years sixers and seconders camp).

Each group will be representing a different country and the 52nd EFS will be representing New Zealand, so we will need to learn a haka and serve a local dish.

I’m glad to say we some parent volunteers so we can take up to 24 Cubs now.

This will be an outdoor camp and tents will be provided.

More details will be provided as a finalise the plans.

Kayaking session

I’ve been talking to the kayaking/canoe group that I go weekly about having a scout/cub session there.  The cost is to be confirmed, but it will less than £10/cub for a two hour session.

Details of the location can be found here: http://www.edmonton-canoe.org.uk/lake-sessions/

And a link to the map is here: https://goo.gl/maps/eb6X7jUh6L52

I go weekly with Arthur, it’s an amazing spot with swans and various birds and ducks on the lake.  I think the cubs/scouts will love it and the water isn’t too cold now it’s warmed up.

This will be a weekend in July, please let me know if this is something your cubs are interested in.

Cubs – Summary of Week 15th May

Weekly Summary

We continued to practise football technique as well as knots, the cubs are doing really well with both activities.

We also had the district 6 a side football event yesterday, whilst the 52nd didn’t win the Cubs all played their hearts out and really enjoyed the day.

Next Week

We will be focusing on a small pioneering project, it would be fantastic if the cubs can make a few camp gadgets during the district camp next month.

Tuesday will be Emily’s last session of the summer as she’s off to France to work over the summer, this will be her last chance to teach the Cubs the haka in preparation for the district camp.

New Website

We have created a new website for the 52nd Epping Forest South, it’s still early days but we plan to use this for sharing information about our activities and other information such as where to get uniforms.

Please do take a look and feel free to provide feedback.
