Kayaking – August 2018

This months session proved to be a success so we are scheduling another kayaking session in August.

Another exciting opportunity to get out on a lake in a kayak, it’s a beautiful spot with various swans and ducks.  A brief video of the location can be found here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/xo2ryKvEBMyYGA2q7

The cost is £10 for a 2 hour session, the minimum age is 8.

Details of the location can be found here: http://www.edmonton-canoe.org.uk/lake-sessions/

And a link to the map is here: https://goo.gl/maps/eb6X7jUh6L52

You will nee to collect and drop off your Cubs from the HYMB centre, there is a car park and you can wait there if you like.

Public transport is available, you can great a train from Stratford to Cheshunt which takes approx. 25 minutes.  Cheshunt train station is right next to the entrance for the HYMB centre.

The cubs/scouts will love it and the water isn’t too cold now it’s warmed up.

Cub/scouts will need to bring the following:

  • Clothes to get wet in (wet suit, swimming shorts/costume etc.).  We do not recommend thick tracksuits or denim in the kayak, they get far too heavy when wet.
  • Shoes to wear in the kayak (old trainers or water shoes)
  • Towel
  • Dry clothes to go home in
  • Sun cream (there is no shade on the lake)
  • A drink and snack for after the session

We aim to be on the water for 13:30, please arrive at 13:00 to allow time to change and a safety briefing.

Autumn Camp

Date: 19-21 October

Location: Tolmers Activity Centre – https://goo.gl/maps/f44kFvudDD32

An exciting family weekend for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, we encourage parents to come along and see what fun we have on camp and during our meetings.

We really need more adult helpers, so please do join in the experience.

The activities are being confirmed but we are considering some of the following:

  • Rifle shooting
  • Indoor climbing
  • High ropes
  • Bungee run
  • Trampoline

The site is Tolmers Activity Centre, we have book a hut that sleeps up to 34 people.  Parents and carers are welcome to stay, as long as they are DBS checked.  Due to the layout of the accommodation, parents/carers will not be able to sleep in a room with their cubs.

The cost is £15/per person for the entire weekend, this covers the food whilst the 52nd EFS group will cover the costs for camping and activities.  Parents/carers staying for the weekend will also be charged £15/each.

The address is:

Tolmers Activity Centre
Tolmers Road
Cuffley
Herts
EN6 4JS

A map for the location is here: https://goo.gl/maps/e58N6sdSpEH2

This will be an indoor camp for Cubs and Beavers, Scouts will camp (any willing Cubs, Parents/Carers can also camp if they choose to).

Cubs Summary of the week – 26th June

Weekly Summary

This week we practised making shelters and hammocks, this turned out to be much simpler than tents so perhaps they will stay dry at camp…

We hope to get more practise in at future camps.

Summer District Activity weekend

What a weekend this has been! All the beavers, cubs and scouts had an amazing time taking part is as many activities as they could fit into one day!

One the first day we asked them to help setup the camp and like the camp fire:
