52nd Epping Forest South Scouts

What is Scouting? ADVENTURE!

Scouting is a remarkable movement that brings amazing benefits and enjoyment to everyone involved – children, leaders, parents and everyone involved with the running of the group.

Through adventure, we help our scouts develop team-work skills, friendships, confidence, independence, responsibility and a ‘can do’ attitude to help prepare them for the wider world.

Everyone in our group takes part in many adventures & activities at weekly evening meetings, and weekend activities in the term.  In a typical year, we will do climbing, cycling, hammocking, hiking, canoeing, shooting, abseiling, kayaking, swimming, fire-lighting, community visits, craft activities, raft building, helping the community and many many more adventures.

Who is Scouting for? EVERYONE!

Our group runs Beavers (6-8yrs – Mondays), Cubs (8-10.5yrs – Tuesday) and Scouts (10.5-14yrs – Mondays). We have “Young Leaders” (14-18yrs) and some adult leaders. Some people think Scouts is just for boys – it’s not – we have girls too and are looking for more!

How much does it cost?

At Scouts, all parents help keep the running costs down by lending a hand in running activities and fundraising. This enables the costs to remain low. It  costs approximately £45 per term, which covers weekly meetings, insurance, membership etc. Camps and other events cost extra, and the cost depends on the activities that your young person/child wishes to attend.

Who runs Scouting? VOLUNTEERS!

Everyone in our group is a volunteer, and that includes parents,  which is why we can provide such many great value activities. All our leaders (who like you, are parent volunteers too) have undergone training and criminal records checks, and when we provide “adventurous activities” we will either use externally qualified people, or our own leaders with appropriate qualifications.

This group is run by volunteers and we are always on the look out for more volunteers to make it easier for the group. We almost had to close in 2016 due to poor response and had to desperately ask one of the other Scout group’s leader to help out. Children feel proud of their parents when they volunteer. So if you want make a difference to their lives; to learn something new and to take part in activities that you never thought you would in your life, then please click here to get in touch! I can promise you one thing… It will be fun and adventurous for all.

Where are we?
